Healthy Living Team Leader

Full Time – 37.5 hours per week

The Lantern Community is a unique and inclusive home for 54 residents (adults with diverse abilities) and welcomes day placements from the local area. Situated within 15 acres of beautiful Hampshire countryside, we provide meaningful opportunities through our nine workshops, fostering independence, creativity and a supportive community.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Healthy Living Team Leader to lead our Healthy Living provision, supporting adults with learning disabilities and diverse abilities to improve their health, wellbeing, confidence and independence through meaningful fitness, exercise and healthy lifestyle activities.

About the Role

As Healthy Living Team Leader, you will work collaboratively with our residential, healthcare and support teams to deliver engaging and accessible healthy living programmes tailored to individual needs.

You will lead and facilitate a variety of fitness and wellbeing activities, support Companions (adults with learning disabilities) to achieve their personal goals, supervise support staff and volunteers, and ensure the safe and effective operation of the Healthy Living service.

The role combines leadership, coaching, fitness instruction, programme planning and person-centred support within an inclusive community setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Healthy Living service and supporting staff.

  • Deliver inclusive fitness, exercise and wellbeing activities for adults with diverse abilities.

  • Complete fitness assessments, inductions and personalised exercise programmes.

  • Develop accessible and Easy Read fitness and healthy living plans.

  • Adapt activities to meet a wide range of abilities and support needs.

  • Work closely with healthcare professionals and support teams to promote holistic wellbeing.

  • Support individuals to make informed choices about their health, fitness and lifestyle.

  • Motivate and encourage participants to achieve personal goals and greater independence.

  • Ensure all activities are delivered safely and in accordance with support plans and risk assessments.

  • Maintain equipment, facilities and records in line with health and safety requirements.

  • Manage budgets, resources and programme records effectively.

  • Support volunteers and colleagues.

  • Contribute to community events, celebrations and festivals.

Essential Criteria

  • Professional qualification in Personal Training, Physical Education, Sports Coaching, Health & Wellbeing, Psychotherapy or a related discipline.

  • Experience working with adults with learning disabilities or other diverse abilities.

  • Experience leading healthy living, fitness, sports or wellbeing activities.

  • Experience designing accessible fitness programmes and Easy Read resources.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and positive behaviour support approaches.

  • Experience supervising, supporting or managing staff and/or volunteers.

  • Excellent fitness knowledge and practical coaching skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to motivate and engage individuals with diverse abilities and support needs.

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively.

  • Ability to remain calm, reflective and professional.

  • Strong literacy, numeracy and record-keeping skills.

  • Flexible, proactive and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Commitment to person-centred support and inclusion.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

About the Role

We are seeking compassionate and reliable Bank Support Workers to join our caring and dedicated teams within our Supported Living houses.

Bank staff provide flexible cover for planned and unplanned absences and may also bring specialist skills to support short-term needs. This is a casual, zero-hours arrangement offering flexibility for both you and the Community.

You will need to be flexible in your availability, as shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and waking nights. Hours are offered on an ad hoc basis and cannot be guaranteed. Assignments may range from a single shift to several weeks.

While you are not obligated to accept work offered, once shifts are agreed there is a mutual commitment to fulfil them.

Key Responsibilities

All Support Workers play a key role in enabling our service users (Companions) to work towards their goals and aspirations through person-centred support plans.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting general welfare, housing-related tasks, and social or cultural activities

  • Working both independently and as part of a team within our Supported Living houses

  • Assisting with personal care, emotional well-being and health needs

  • Supporting access to meaningful cultural and community life

  • Encouraging participation in activities within the wider community

  • Promoting independence and the development of new skills

  • Supporting and maintaining relationships with families and friends

About You

A full induction and professional training will be provided.

Ideally, you will have relevant social care qualifications or training (such as the Care Certificate, Adult Social Care qualifications, Food Safety, or similar).

However, the most important qualities are:

Volunteers - Befrienders Group

Do you enjoy doing some, or all of the following activities; playing Uno, Dominoes, Snakes and Ladders, drawing, writing, reading stories with others, jigsaw puzzles or Sudoku etc.

If you do enjoy activities like these then can you spare a couple of hours a week on a Thursday morning from 9am until 11am, to help others to learn and enjoy such activities with the befrienders and with each other. (Please note that Befrienders volunteering is not the same as our co-worker volunteering. Accommodation is not provided, and casual volunteers do not live in the Lantern Community).

Casual Local Volunteering at the Lantern

A number of adults who can spare either a few hours, individual days, or several days per week on a causal basis who can give their time to a whole range of activities that may include gardening, handcrafts, printing, transport and tutoring. All our volunteers are considered members of the Community Their individual contribution is highly valued and appreciated. (Please note that casual volunteering is not the same as our co-worker volunteering. Accommodation is not provided, and casual volunteers do not live in the Lantern Community).

All members of the Community acknowledge the valuable life experience and skills that each volunteer offers, along with loyalty, friendship and the commitment required to freely give of personal time.

The Lantern Community recognises that volunteering must benefit the individual as well as ourselves, and aims to provide an environment that is inclusive, stimulating, friendly and supportive. We wish to continually maintain and develop a creative and mutually beneficial relationship between volunteers and the Community, recognising that volunteers are a positive force in describing our work and engendering support and understanding in the wider community.

The Lantern Community employs approximately 100 people who are engaged in a variety of work, covering areas such as finance, administration, workshops, Companion and house support.
