Team Leader Social Care / House coordinator 

Pay: £31,902.00 per year

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week), worked on a rota basis. You’ll be part of a supportive team covering a mix of day, evening, and weekend shifts, ensuring every day brings variety and balance.

We’re looking for a compassionate and experienced Care & Support Team Leader (House Co-ordinator) to join our Community. In this rewarding role, you’ll be part of a dedicated team supporting adults with learning disabilities in their home, working closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the smooth running of the home.

We’re seeking someone with strong organisational and administrative skills, a collaborative approach, and a real commitment to empowering people with diverse needs to live fulfilling lives.

The Lantern Community is a unique and inclusive home for 54 residents (adults with diverse abilities) and welcomes over 20-day placements from the local area. Placed in 15 acres of beautiful Hampshire countryside, we provide meaningful opportunities through our 9 workshops, fostering independence, creativity, and a supportive community.

About the Role:

To support holistic development and well-being of adults with diverse learning abilities, record and celebrate their journey to fulfil their full potential.

  • Structure and manage the duties for the team in the house. Line managing the support staff and Co-workers (volunteers) including supervision and training.

  • Maintain the property of a residential house, working within agreed budgets and co-ordinating the running of the House.

  • Responsible for ordering and auditing the medication for the Companions, following the Lantern Community Medication Policy.

  • To produce and implement support and care plans by providing one-to-one support or shared support.

  • You will be part of a creative team promoting independence, self-confidence and a positive self-image of our service users/Companions.

About you:

Relevant experience working in health or social care settings, including at least two years in a senior role supporting adults with diverse learning abilities.

  • Recognised qualifications, such as Level 3 (or above) in Health Care, Adult Social Care, or an equivalent field.

  • Leadership experience, with a track record of supervising, mentoring, and training colleagues, including those with diverse needs.

  • Strong communication skills, with proven literacy, numeracy, IT competence, and excellent record-keeping.

  • Collaborative working, able to build effective relationships with multi-disciplinary teams, professionals, carers, and families.

  • Organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise workload, maintain high standards, and meet deadlines.

  • Resilience and adaptability, remaining positive and solution-focused in changing situations.

  • Inspirational leadership, with the ability to influence, motivate, and inspire others.

Waking Night Rate: £15.01 per hour
Waking Night Shift: 8:00pm – 8:00am (including 1-hour unpaid break)

About the Role

We are seeking compassionate and reliable Bank Support Workers to join our caring and dedicated teams within our Supported Living houses.

Bank staff provide flexible cover for planned and unplanned absences and may also bring specialist skills to support short-term needs. This is a casual, zero-hours arrangement offering flexibility for both you and the Community.

You will need to be flexible in your availability, as shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and waking nights. Hours are offered on an ad hoc basis and cannot be guaranteed. Assignments may range from a single shift to several weeks.

While you are not obligated to accept work offered, once shifts are agreed there is a mutual commitment to fulfil them.

Key Responsibilities

All Support Workers play a key role in enabling our service users (Companions) to work towards their goals and aspirations through person-centred support plans.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting general welfare, housing-related tasks, and social or cultural activities

  • Working both independently and as part of a team within our Supported Living houses

  • Assisting with personal care, emotional well-being and health needs

  • Supporting access to meaningful cultural and community life

  • Encouraging participation in activities within the wider community

  • Promoting independence and the development of new skills

  • Supporting and maintaining relationships with families and friends

About You

A full induction and professional training will be provided.

Ideally, you will have relevant social care qualifications or training (such as the Care Certificate, Adult Social Care qualifications, Food Safety, or similar).

However, the most important qualities are:

Volunteers - Befrienders Group

Do you enjoy doing some, or all of the following activities; playing Uno, Dominoes, Snakes and Ladders, drawing, writing, reading stories with others, jigsaw puzzles or Sudoku etc.

If you do enjoy activities like these then can you spare a couple of hours a week on a Thursday morning from 9am until 11am, to help others to learn and enjoy such activities with the befrienders and with each other. (Please note that Befrienders volunteering is not the same as our co-worker volunteering. Accommodation is not provided, and casual volunteers do not live in the Lantern Community).

Casual Local Volunteering at the Lantern

A number of adults who can spare either a few hours, individual days, or several days per week on a causal basis who can give their time to a whole range of activities that may include gardening, handcrafts, printing, transport and tutoring. All our volunteers are considered members of the Community Their individual contribution is highly valued and appreciated. (Please note that casual volunteering is not the same as our co-worker volunteering. Accommodation is not provided, and casual volunteers do not live in the Lantern Community).

All members of the Community acknowledge the valuable life experience and skills that each volunteer offers, along with loyalty, friendship and the commitment required to freely give of personal time.

The Lantern Community recognises that volunteering must benefit the individual as well as ourselves, and aims to provide an environment that is inclusive, stimulating, friendly and supportive. We wish to continually maintain and develop a creative and mutually beneficial relationship between volunteers and the Community, recognising that volunteers are a positive force in describing our work and engendering support and understanding in the wider community.
