The Sheiling Trust
The Sheiling Trust was established in September 1991 as a charitable non profit company. It was formed by the amalgamation of three separate organisations: Sheiling School Ltd, Sheiling Farms Ltd and Ringwood Waldorf School Ltd.
From this point on, four different 'Activities' were established, namely The Sheiling School, Sturts Farm Community, The Lantern Community and Ringwood Waldorf School, each of whom have their own administration group and Council, having delegated responsibility directly from the 'Advisory Council' (Board of Directors and Trustees).
The Advisory Council meets at least four times a year, and membership is comprised of representatives from the Activities and Trustees associated with each Activity.
The Sheiling Trust Association
The Trust is constituted legally as an 'Association' which invites formal applications for membership from anyone who would wish to support and interest themselves in its endeavours. Members are invited to attend General Meetings of the Association that may be called from time to time by the Trustees, and they carry a degree of responsibility and commitment.
Beyond this legal form, there is a wider potential for associative working involving Association members and people formally within and beyond the various Activities. For although these Activities are "independent" to the extent that they have their own identity and task, their health and viability, and that of the Trust, relies on the expression of "interdependence" that can be mutually achieved. This "interdependence" can be recognised in areas of finance regarding capital development, but also through the sharing of human support, and the furtherance of common cultural, and social objectives. The Sheiling Trust Association was founded on the ideal of encouraging individual initiative and joint endeavour.
