Photo Workshop with Eva Bartussek
The Lantern Photography Workshop 26.10.2009 - 30.10.2009
During the week long workshop some of the companions had the unique opportunity to experience the joys of photography. With the help of photographer, Eva Bartussek the participants enjoyed learning about the different aspects of photography and practised using their cameras in outdoor conditions as well as in a studio setting. One exercise, using sunlight and light sensitive paper, took them back to the beginnings of photography. The process was discovered by the English scientist and astronomer Sir John Herschel in 1842 and Anna Atkins, regarded as the first female photographer, used the procedure to create a series of cyanotype (blue-print) books to document ferns and other plant life. In another activity the meaning of the word, photography (writing with light) was explored by using torches in a dark room. Taking pictures in a studio setting was another highlight of the workshop, aspects of portrait photography - the importance of lighting, composition and the question of identity - were studied. At the end of the the workshop an exhibition of the work was formerly opened. Csaba
