Our Plant and Vegetable Nursery
The nursery grows shrubs and flowering plants for use in our own gardens and for sale. It also produces salad crops, herbs, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers for use in our houses and the cafe. All plants are produced using biodynamic practices with organic seeds sown according to the star calendar and without the use of artificial chemicals or fertilizer.
Our nursery and garden continue to evolve. The hub of the garden enterprise is the compost! We make our own organic compost used on our nursery to produce our bulbs, beddings, herbs and shrubs, trees and climbers, grown with biodynamic methods, all of which are for sale from the nursery or outside the shop.
Our greenhouse and polytunnel produce salad crops for use in the cafe and Lantern houses. Eggs from our chickens and ducks are supplied to them too.
The eco garden has new paths, trees and planted beds. In our enclosed garden we grow salad, vegetables, herbs and dried flowers for use by the Seasonal workshop in their products. All of our autumn leaves cleared from our roads and gardens are used as mulch and in our compost making process.
The Land group has many other tasks which include recycling the tins, plastic and card from the Lantern and Sheiling communities, also all the maintenaince work such as grass cutting, hedging and ditching associated with caring for our ten acre site.
